Hiut Denim company makes jeans. That’s it. Nothing more. The name is quite self-explanatory. But the thing is, they make the jeans really, really well. In fact, ‘The Grand Masters’ can only make 150 pairs of Hiut’s a week. It shows how much attention to detail and time it is put in to make the best quality jeans.

But, let’s start from the beginning. For three decades, Cardigan (population 4,000) in the UK, had the biggest jeans factory in Britain. It made 35,000 pairs a week until the facility closed in 2002 with the loss of 400 jobs. Fast forward ten years when David Hieatt started his own denim company – The Hiut Denim Company, with five people making just 30 pairs of jeans a week. His goal is to use the skillful people of this town and get Cardigan back in its stride.

A significant breakthrough happened in 2018 when Megan Markle was spotted in a black pair of Hiut’s jeans, creating a big buzz and a backorder waiting list for three months.

“We want to be as low impact as possible, and producing a stretch jean comes with impact. To help reduce this and improve the product, we have chosen to work with Polygiene. Their technology helps the customer Wear More Wash Less.”, says Clare Hieatt, Co-founder of Hiut Denim.

There is a great deal of satisfaction to be gained from making something well, of such superior quality that you know it is going to stand the test of time.
